5522. Berthier Rifle. Starting in 1892, the Berthier Rifle
was used until the advent of the Lebel Rifle, then was used extensively
from WWI until after WWII. It was used by
the 93rd Infantry Division, an African-American Division attached to
French Forces in WWI. During WWII, German units stationed in occupied
France wholesale used the Berthier Rifle. This
example is a Model 07/15 which was upgraded to Model 1916 5 round
magazine capacity. A small letter N stamped on the receiver means this
was upgraded to use 8mm Machine Gun Ammunition in the 1930's
time frame. Note the very beautiful tiger grained stock. |
